I found this very enjoyable to read about the wine making efforts of the Parducci family in northern California. John Parducci is still lving today, 90 years young (google) and still a winemaker at heart. My having had a little Italian step-grandfather who made drinking wine in his cellar in the 30's, it was fascinating to read how the grapes were distributed for family use back during the depression. In his family, wine was always drunk at meal times with the smallest portion to the children, of course! A lot of labor and love went into the wine making business in those early days, establishing a California market for wines and wresting away sales from Europe. But as times changed so did the drinking public who became more snobbish in what they drank rather than the quality of what they drank, driving many wineries out of business. The change in technology and laws allegedly protecting us also changed the taste of the wines, some, to their detriment of less taste. We can thank John Parducci for introducing the concept of wine tasting rooms at breweries as a mthod of sales direct to the public. He introduced a lot of innovative ideas in making wine as well as selling it. He was a hard working man, backbone of America in living his life and his dreams. Even if you don't know much about wine, like myself, I think you will enjoy this article and contemplate experiementing with drinking more wine, starting with his McNab Ridge Winery wines (control of Parducci was wrested away in the 1990's).
BTW - don't bother to read text edition as the OCR screwed the text up royally and you will lose a lot of the interview reading it in text.
